EXPORT LICENSES NEEDED PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES (By Telegraph.— press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday By notice in this week’s Gazette the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Nash, has ordered that precious and semi-precious stones’ shipped or posted for export on and after March 11, 1940, and goods the produce of New Zealand posted in course of trade or business for exportation on and after March 11, will be subject to the export licences regulations, 1938. At the present time all goods (other than gold) exported through the post office are exempt from the provisions of the regulations. Mr Nash said the step was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure that the proceeds of the sale of all New Zealand produce exported by post and of precious and semi-prec-ious stones exported should be placed to New Zealand’s credit abroad. “It should be noted,” said the Minister, “that this determination does not affect exemption from the regulations of bona-fide gifts.”
