PLUNKET SOCIETY APPEAL GENEROUS RESPONSE OF PUBLIC Despite troublesome times, the people of Hamilton responded remarkably well to the annual street appeal of the Hamilton Plunket Society yesterday, and the record amount of £BO 5s was collected. From 7 o’clock In the morning young women were on the streets selling buttonholes made by the Gardening Circle of the Hamilton Lyceum Club. All the blooms were of excellent quality. The sale of buttonholes realised £45, and the remaining money was collected at the special stalls outside the Public Library, where ilowers and cakes were sold. Mrs N. E. Blomfield, Hamilton president of the Plunket Society, announcing the result of the appeal, expressed her deep appreciation to the public for its generous support during the very troublesome limes. A viscountcy has been conferred on the retiring Lord Chancellor, Lord Maugham, a message from Geneva.
