AFTER-HOURS TRADING
BREACH BY FRUITERERS SIGNATORIES TO REQUISITION For a breach of the order governing the trading hours of fruiterers* shops in Hamilton borough. F. J. Hall and R. D. Pick (Mr J. R. Fitz-Gerald). trading as Hall and Pick, of Claudelands, were each convicted and fined 10s and costs. Defendants pleaded guilty. Inspector E. A. Wood, district Inspector of shops and offices, stated that on March 29 defendants’ shop had been open after 6 p.m., the closingtime provided in the requisition. Under the latter, fruiterers in the borough were required to close their premises at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Defendants had been signatories to the petition for the requisition. For defendants, Mr Fitz-Gerald stated that the breach was admitted. They had a mixed business, selling eggs, butter and milk as well as fruit. Defendants had signed the requisition (at the inspector's request; under a misapprehension. Another similar shop across the rood from their’s in Claudelands wos keeping open after 6 p.m. and defendants bad informed the inspector that they intended to do the same. It was now intended to apply for remedy under the act.
