PROPOSED BIENNIAL PLAY OPPOSITION IN UNITED STATES PRESTIGE OF CONTEST LOST United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received April 2, 3.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 1 The United States Lawn Tennis Association has sent a letter to the Davis Cup uations opposing the proposal of several European nations for biennial play. The letter cites six reasons in favour of annual play:— Cl) It assures continuous public Interest. '2) There is no reason why a nation not wishing to challenge In any year should preclude others from challenging. (3) The prestige of the Davis Cup contest would be lost. (4) It would seriously shorten the active years of Davis Cup players. (5) Biennial play would encourage the growth of professional tennis. (6) Mr. Dwight Davis strongly opposes biennial play.
