GERMANY AND AUSTRIA
STATEMENT BY HERR HITLER ALLEGED PLOT TO BETRAY SEEKING SUPPORT ABROAD United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received April 2, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, April 1 The Stuttgart correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that Herr Hitler declared that he decided to mobilise in Austria two days before the actual mobilisation, as he had received proof that Dr. von Schuschnigg was preparing to betray his Berchtesgaden pledges. This proof was contained in a private communication from Dr. von Schuschnigg to the Austrian provincial Governor, in which lie stated that he had decided to yield to Herr Hitler’s demands only to gain time until opinion abroad could be mobilised in Dr. von Schuschmgg's favour.
