The Earl of Jersey was married to Miss Virginia 'Cherrill, film actress, who played: the part of the blind flower girl in Charles Chaplin’s “ City Lights,” at the Chelsea Registrar’s Office. Virginia Gherrill, 29-years-old blonde actress, is the divorced wife of Cary Grant, film player. As is often the case with Chaplin’s “discoveries,” she fitted admirably the role In his picture, but has made little headway since. She has been practically unheard -of in the film world In the past two years. Described as the most fashionable wedding of the year, Lord Jersey married; Miss Patricia Richards, the 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Richards, of Cootamundra, in January, 1932. The honeymoon was spent on a visit to Australia. Lady Jersey subsequently divorced her husband. There is one daughter of the marriage, Lady Caroline Child Villiers. Caused a Sensation. Lord Jersey is the ninth Earl of Jersey, an earldom created: in 1697. His other titles are Viscount Grandison, Viscount Villiers, and Baron Hoo. lie caused a sensation when four years after his marriage he published an advertisement disclaiming responsibility for anv debts incurred by his wife.
