INGOTS WORTH £750. MAN DETAINED BY POLICE. INCIDENT IN CITY STREET. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday. What Is believed to be the largest amount of gold seized by the police in New Zealand was taken from a man in Customs Street yesterday by two detectives, one of whom was in disguise. Five ingots of gold and 55 sovereigns of an alleged total value of £750 were involved. The man found in possession of the gold w’ns dotalned at the police station ,ar> (l subsequently was released. Tlio police retained tho gold which was placed in a bank vault to-day. The police* are reticent regarding the matter.
