WELCOME AT CHRISTCHURCH

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday,
The Governor-General, Lord Galway, and Lady Galway were warmly welcomed at Lyttelton and Christchurch this morning, when they began their first visit to the South Island. I'hey were met at the Christchurch railway station by members of the Dominion Boy Scouts’ Council, and later were waited on at their hotel by the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. At noon Their Excellencies attended a civic reception in the theatre, where the Mayoress presented • Lady Galway with a bouquet. The Mayor formally presented an address from the citizens, and speeches‘of welcome followed. Later the Governor-General placed a wreath on the Bridge of Remembrance. The Vice-Regal party will leave for Dunedin to-morrow morning.
