Barter as a means of improving the sale of the Dominion's primary produce on tlie overseas market was cited with approbation in two remits dealing with trade which wevc before the annual conference of the Waikato Sub-Pro-vincial District of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in Hamilton yesterday afternoon.
Defining the menace of restrictions upon New Zealand’s exports to Britain and the increasing severity of competition in tlie Home market as the grounds for the suggestion, Mr J. 11. Wholesale Society of Britain, not only as an avenue of distribution of primary produce, but also as a source of supply for the Dominion’s overseas requirements. He pointed out that under an agreement with the Co-op. Wholesale Society, Dominion farmers would obtain Hie marketing of their produce through the largest system of chain stores in England. A further Uunlly remit urged that as a means of evading Hie barriers eroded against the Dominion’s exports and an aid in reducing internal costs, an effort should ho made lo exchange quantities of primary products with other nations for sucli commodities in hulk as wi'ce available and suitable for Hie Dominion's requirements. The remits were carried.
