“INCORRIGIBLE THIEF.”
NINE BICYCLES TAKEN. SOLD TO DEALERS. “You are an incorrigible thief. You have had chances before, so I will inflict the severest penalty in my power on these charges," commented Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate s Court, Hamilton, to-day, in sentencing Ashley Maurice Deuchrass, aged 18. years, to three years Borstal deten{ion on one charge of theft of £2 and nine charges of thefts of bicycles. The bicycles were all owned by Hamilton people, the owners being Christopher Wass, Alexander M. Dell, Keith Andrews, Murray Marshall, James Cliff Fraser, Kenneth Stewart Kelly, Norman Delaney, Hamilton Borough Council, aiid 'dne unknown. Constable H. Hay, in evidence, stated that he interviewed accused, who admitted stealing all the bicycles and selling them to various dealers in the town for prices ranging from 15s to 255.
Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson, who prosecuted, said that accused was released from Weraroa Training School about a month ago on license and went to work on a farm at Rot-o-rangi. He ran away from the farm about a fortnight ago, taking the £2 from an employer, and commenced his •series of thefts in Hamilton. lie had twice been convicted in the Children’s Court, and sent to Weraroa on two occasions. ./
