INTERNATIONAL GOLF.
MATCHES IN MELBOURNE. AMERICANS SUCCESSFUL. MELBOURNE, Dec. 1. The Peninsula Golf Club’s open event was played, at Frankston to-day. The event was originally arranged for 54, holes to be played oyer two days. The weather caused an abandonment of the first day and it was decided to play one day over 36 holes. This morning two holes were still under water and the first round was played over 1.0 holes. In the afternoon the ground dried to enable the full round to be played. The, best scores were: Runyan, 07, 67 —134; Diegoi, 03, 71 —134; Craig Wood, 67, 09—130; Ezar, 01, 7C,_137 ; Cooper (United States, 01, 77 — 138; Lal'foon, 07, 72—139; Thomson, 04, 75 —*139; Ivo \Ybillon (Melbourne), 74, GO—l4o. Shelley (New Zealand) did nol lday. Olliers who did well in the previous Centenary events finished well down on (he list. These scores included: M. .1. Ryan, 09, 76 —145; G. Naismith, 70, 75 —145; E. Naismith, 75, 78— I 53.
’Plic day was boisterous and unfavourable for good golf. The Americans were unperturbed, however, and played steadily. ltunyan and Diegel divide the llrst prize of £2OO for professionals, Whillon winning the amateur cuo.
