OUTRAGE AT TE KUITI

ATTEMPT TO WRECK TRAIN,

JIGGER ACROSS THE RAILS.

DRIVER'S LUCKY DISCOVERY.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

TE KUITI, Tuesday. An attempt was made to wrecK rolling stock in the railway yards early on Monday morning. While shunting at 3 a.m. a driver noticed that the points on a side line were half-locked. An examination showed that they had been forced apart by two large stones. Further along the line a heavy jigger was placed across the rails. But for the vigilance of the shunting staff the engine would have been derailed. Later detonaters taken from tho jigger exploded when an engine went over them.

It appeared to be the work of more than one man, as the jigger was too cumbersome for a single man.
