GOOD RESPONSE TO DEMAND. j £31,097 ALREADY IN. (By Telegraph.— -Vress Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday. Within exactly one month of demands being issued by the City Council a sum estimated at nearly half the rates struck for the ourrent year has been collected. The amount in hand yesterday afternoon Avas £31,097. A rebate of 3i per cent, was offered for payment in the first month. The effect of this is shown by the fact that payments in July last year were only £4217.
