FINES AT WHANGAREI. WIIANGAREI, Monday. In the Police • Court to-day, Marie Josephine Thompson, a married woman, denied a charge of stealing goods or a total value of -is 3d. Evidence was given by several assistants in a department store that accused left the grocery department without paying for certain goods. The' sales manager said he asked accused had she paid for all the goods in her possession, and she said site had. A fine of £7 10s was imposed.
Catherine Reid Barrie, wife of a relief worker, denied stealing a tin of aluminium paint, valued at Is 9d. The Magistrate said lie would have to convict. Owing to the poor circumstances of accused lie would take a risk in reducing the I7ne to £3, which would be as hard a burden as tho £7 10s In the previous case.
