SATIN AND SILK TROUSERS

WOMEN’S FASHIONS FOR CRUISES. (By a Woman Correspondent.) Coquettish hats, “Dietrich” trousers (for cruising), flowered organdies, and “wind-swept"'satin will be favoured by women this summer. This was revealed to the dress trade at the Fashions and Women’s Wear Exhibition, which opened at Dorland Hall, Lower Regent Street, W. Determined attempts are being made to oust the simple and Inexpensive beret by introducing the more sophisticaled saucer hat, again tilted over one eye. The trousers are fairly faithful copies of the masculine garment, having hip pockets, pleated waists, front creases down the leg, and turnup hems. They arc mainly in flannel, light-weight tweeds and suiting, but some are of satin, crepe de chine, and silk.

“Wind-swept" satin is a new British material with a ripple effect, for afternoon frocks, while “Water-wave Cracknell," a satin with a ridgcweavc, is featured as a bridal gown in ivory shade. New colours are “Passion Purple," "Blush Pink,” and “Heaven Blue." Frills and needle-run embroideries are the smart trimmings for evening and semi-evening gowns. Many of the gowns are in organdies, which have the advantage of being washable.
