Tennis. The Mokai tennis players are practising hard for the coming tournament with Tokaanu. The Motai Maori Club held a successful dance last week. Thunderstorm. A severe thunderstorm passed over Mokai last week. The lightning was vivid and was followed by torriental rain. An Accident. On Monday a painful accident befell Jack Gamble, an employee of the Taupo Totora Timber Company, his foot being badly crushed between the Pacific bench and a roller in the mill. Waikato Bridge. The old Waikato wooden swingbridge, the largest of its kind in New Zealand, is being pulled down. An up-to-date steel bridge was built beside it last year. t Personal. Mr R. G. Brain, postmaster, is on annual leave. He is being relieved by Mr R. Ellery. Mr and Mrs Di'bley and son have left the district to take up farming in Mangapeehi. Miss E. McNelly, infant school mistress, has been transferred to Huntly. Miss J. Clark, of Mokai, is filling her place. Mr Jack Hurrell has left Mokai for Auckland, where he is preparing for his forthcoming trip around the world. Mr Coope, manager of the Taupo Totora Timber Company, and several directors, are visiting Mokai on a tour of inspection.
