TAUHEI.

A Good Save. A large stock of hay on Mr Cocker’s place was found to be on Are last Sunday and a gang of men started operations at 9.30 a.m. to save It. A channel was cut into the middle of the staok till the burning portion was met with and then gallons of wated were used to check the fire. While the cut was still in progress, at 3.30, most of the fire-fighters had to leave for milking. Only three were left to continue the fight and when they were almost exhausted by the hard work and the smoke and fumes, the fire was subdued at S p.m. The remains of the stack was promptly baled and produced 3S tons. This is the second hay stack that has taken fire in Tauhei, the other one, on Mr Lowary’s property, being a total loss.
