THE COMING SHOW.

ENTRIES CLOSE TO-DAY. HIGHLY FAVOURABLE PROSPECTf POPULARITY OF PIGS & HORSES* There are ample indications that thl annual show of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association, to be held at the Showgrounds, Claudelands, on November 11 and 12, will prove outstanding from the point of view of quantity and quality of exhibits.

Like similar organisations the association has experienced good and bad years but that there will always be a warm place for it in the heart of both the farming and business community has never been doubted. During, the last two years there has been a great revival of interest in its activities, due in large measure to the revised, progressive policy of the executive. Recent financial assistance from an art union has proved another stabilising factor. While the summer show is still, as it has always been, primarily a farmer’s affair, much has been introduced that is of a general appeal and the coming fixture will possess features of interest to practically every seotion of the community..

Entries, which close to-cjhy, and whioh have been coming forward freely from leading breeders in the province, promise to riva l ! in numbers those of past years. In the dairy cattle section Friesians and Jerseys are the strongest classes but other breeds will also be well represented. The fat lamb entry is said to compare favourably with that of last year while the rapid, recent development of the pig industry is reflected in increased entries from pedigree breeders. From the splendid range of entries in the pig section it is evident that the ranks of porks raisers are daily Increasing owing largely to research, work and lihproved marketing conditions. Then again the return of the horse to popular favour among farmers is evidenced by good entries, especially in the light and heavy draught classes. Given favourable weather conditions and the support from town and coun-> try that it deserves, this year’s show should again prove to be a signal success.
