, ' N.Z. ASSOCIATION. THE ANNUAL MEETING. MR R. D. DUXFIELD, PRESIDENT. The annual general meeting of the Now Zealand Shorthorn Association was held iast evening, the president. Mr Robert Peach, of Canterbury, presiding over a large attendance. The annual report stated: The council lias pleasure in reporting further progress in the work and objects of the association and in the breeding of milking Shorthorn cattle throughout this Dominion. The popularity of this breed in many districts is gaining favour, indicated by the larger number of entries of milking- Shorthorns in the various A. and P. shows. At the Royal Show' in Christchurch this year the Shorthorns held oride of place and w'ere indeed an outstanding exhibit of qualify stock. Members deserve great credit for the manner in which they prepared and brought out thei” cattle at this show. Association’s Prizes. The number of entries for the year show a slight decrease, but this w'as expected owing to the present depressed state of -the live stock markets. Ruling prices for pedigree stock throughout the Dominion are mu-b lower than formerly and this must influence the number of young stock reared. The entries for volume 11 now number 876 males and 2210 females, which is 'certainly very satisfactory. Membership remains practically the same. Thirty-one new members have joined the association! while resignations number 23. Finance. Although the bank balance is not so high as at the 31st. March, 1931, the financial' position is nevertheless good. By the end of the year subscriptions outstanding by members rose from £174 6s to £246 15s. Members whose subscriptions are still unpaid are requested to forward same to the secretary as early as possible. The report and balance-sheet were adopted as read. Eleotlon of Officers.
