HONOLULU MURDER

Lieutenant Massie and naval ratings Jones and Lord, for the alleged slaying of Joe Kahahawai, a Japanese boy, who was suspected of being concerned in a criminal assaul' on Mrs Massie, the daughter of Mrs Fortcscue, and the wife of Lieutenant Massie, was continued to-day. Mr Darrow (counsel for the defence) made an eloquent four-hour sympathy plea to the jurors, depicting Mrs Fortescue as a shining example of devoted motherhood. Lieutenant Massie as a chivalrrous hero, and the naval ratings, .Tones and Lord, as faithful followers. He declared that if they were imprisoned it would not he the first- time a prison precincts had been sanctified by its inmates. Mrs Massie wept as Mr Darrow recounted her sufferings, asking the jurors to put themselves in the defendants’ place as the victims of another’s crime.
