OBITUARY.

MRS ELLEN VALDER. Widespread regret will be felt at the death after a long Illness, of Mrs Ellen Valder at her residence, Rivor Road, yesterday. Mrs Valder was born at Maidstone, Kent, in 1867, the daughter of the late Mr J. Bareham Green. She married In 1901 Mr Henry Valder, now managing director of Messrs Ellis and Burnand, and came to New Zealand with her husband in that year. After residing for three years in Auckland they came to Hamilton where they had since made their home.

Mrs Valder was well known and greatly esteemed for her splendid activities with many social, charitable, and humanitarian organisations and was one of the leaders of women’s movements in the town. She was a founder of the Hamilton branch of the National Council of Women and was its president at the time of her death, having held the position for the past 18 years. Her work with the Council was so greatly appreciated that the organisation recognised it by appointing her recently a life vice-president of the Dominion executive. Mrs Valder was also president of the Claudelands Anglican Ladies’ Guild, a member of the Lyceum Clul?, and a member of the Waikato Hospital Board for many years, resigning that office in 1928. She was prominently associated in all the works of the Anglican Church. Mrs Valder is survived by her husband and three daughters, the Misses Molly, Norah and Lilian Valder, all of whom reside in Hamilton. MR RICHARD LEE. The deatli has occurred of Mr Richard Lee, aged 89 years. Deceased was born in Derby (England), and at the age of 25' years married in that town. In 1874 the late Mr Lee sailed on the sailing ship Carl vale for Wellington with his wife and family of throe. The late Mr Lee commenced work as a fitter in Wellington, and later worked in Government railway shops in Pclone and Wanganui. In 1907 he purchased' a farm at Matan)ata, and retired to Hamilton in 1921. lie is survived by iiis wife, two daughters, four sons, 29 graml-children, and 39 great grand-children.
