SPENDING MONEY RAPIDLY. IN POSSESSION Of’ REVOLVER. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. In the Police Court yesterday afternoon, a young man, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, appeared for sentence on a charge of being in unlawful possession of a revolver. At the time of his arrest last Thursday accused was carrying a six-cham-bered revolver and a considerable sum of money in the pockets of his clothing. He told the police he wanted to go abroad and see the world, and that he Intended to buy an aeroplane for £4OO for making a flight from Australia to England. He had made arrangements to leave for Sydney by the Ulimaroa on the following day, but he was restrained from doing so by the Court. The revolver, he informed the police, had been given to him by a girl friend. Spending Money Fast.

Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused was left a lot of money by his mother, and he had just come into possession of a portion of it, having recently attained the age of 21- Hef had been some trouble to his relatives in the past", and he seemed to want to spend his money as fast as he could.

A friend of accused’s family suggested that for his own good the young man should be induced to hand over his money to trustees. “I have known accused for some years ana have seen a good deal of him in the past few weeks. lie Is a fine boy, but is living above himself,” said witness.

Accused’s brother-in-low, giving evidence, said: “In my . opinion the sooner he goes ‘broke’ the better. He is lazy in certain directions, and if ha loses his money he will have to work. He is not dishonest, but he is young and irresponsible, and has a foolish, ambition to become an airman. At present he is just ‘knocking about*, and spending money."
