PERSONAL.

Mr F. C. Seavlll, of Hamilton, was a recent caller at New Zealand House in London. The Rev. Jas. Hay, of Cambridge, is attending the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand at Wellington. The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Public Works, has returned to Wellington from Dunedin, but he is still indisposed and is confined to his bed at his residence. 'Mr Reginald James Richards, M.A. a son of Dr. Richards, Bishop of Dunedin, 'has been appointed headmaster of Christ's College, Christchurch. Mr Richards will take up ills duties at the beginning of next year. Mr T. J. Caesar, a member of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company's Irulay, staff, has received an appointment with Messrs Vcstv Bros., in the Argentine, and will leave Wanganui for Buenos Aires to-morrow. Mr Kenneth P. Emery, ethnologist for the Bishop Museum, Honolulu, arrived in Wellington yesterday by the Mukura, -after a two years’ stay in the Tuamotu nrciiilepago, north of Tahiti. .Mr Emory with two oilier scientists is at the end of a programme of Polynesian research which lias extended over 10 years.

The Auckland Transport Board went into committee at its meeting yesterday to consider a resolution formally moved by Mr J. A. Allum that all honoraria, wages and salaries paid by the board should be reduced by 10 per cent., lo fake effect from June I and June S. After a prolonged discussion Hie board adjourned in committee until to-morrow afternoon. Finality was not reached.
