MOTHERS’ UNION.

CATHEDRAL BRANCH. The final meeting for the year,- of the Cathedral branch of the Mothers’ Union was held on Tuesday afternoon. At the service in the Cathedral several new members were admitted by the Very Rev. the Dean, with the simple and rather beautiful ceremony attached to the admission of members to the Motehrs’ Union. In his address the Dean stressed the value and importance of Intercessions for the sick and troubled,, and besought members to make that their special care during the recess ahead of the branch. In the absence of Mrs Stace, deputy organist to the Cathedral, Mrs Barnett played the harmonium. Much sympathy is felt with Mrs Stace in the severe illness of her mother. The usual adjournment to the hall was made by m'embers for afternoon tea' and a social hour after the service. The president, Mrs Barnett, here expressed her appreciation of the assistance she had received during the session from the hon. secretary, Mrs Peterson, and to the committee, and also to the members, all of whom had helped to make the year a very happy and forward one. Mrs Money expressed the branch’s appreciation of the help and encouragement the Dean had always given, and endorsed the appeal he had made for intercession as the special work of the Mothers’ Union. The Cathedral branch will hold no more meetings until March next, but their work is nevertheless a daily one —in the home chiefly—all the year round. Great sympathy is felt with Mrs Tompkins, a member, in tne severe bereavement she has suffered through the loss of her talented daughter, Mana. St. George’s (Frankton) branch has invited Cathedral members to a “ luncheon, followed by a service and social gathering ’’ from 12 to 3.30 on Wednesday, November 12.
