GENERAL SUMMARY. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. DELHI, Nov. 1. The famous English Cricketers Jack Hobbs and 11. Sutcliffe, who were invited to come to India, arrived at Bombay. Speaking of the last test match Hobbs said England was well and truly beaten. liobbs was inclined to be pessimistic about the future. He deplored the fact that there are no outstanding players coining forward in England and said he could not recall one batsman in England who is likely to follow in the footsteps of those who, have gone. The Australians were a great side. He regretted that a younger team had not been picked for the South African tour. He hoped the Indians would not expect mammoth scores from his bat as his tour was primarily for instruction. SPEEDWAY RECORD. SYDNEY, Nov. 2. At Ashficld motor speedway yesterday Spencer Stratton (New Zealand) broke the world’s record for the quarter-mile. Ilis lime was 17 3-ss. lie won the semi-final of the Ashficld Cup Handicap of four laps in lm. 16 2-55., which is a record. Then lie won the final in the same event in lm. 18 4-5.
Stratton competed in the Gold Star scratch race of three laps and finished second to Tommy Benstead, whose time, 52 3-55., is a world’s record.
