BULGARIA’S QUEEN.
WELCOMED BY PEASANTRY. TRYING BUT PLEASING ORDEAL. A PICTURESQUE SCENE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Nov. 3, 2.15 p.m.) SOFIA, Nov. 2. The young Queen Giovanni had the trying, if gratifying, experience of standing for seven consecutive hours while peasants from all parts of Bulgaria passed and rendered homage. Most arrived overnight, filling the streets and squares, singing, dancing, eating and drinking. They wore local costumes and spoke the local dialect. The whole scene was picturesque. Gifts were piled high about the Queen’s feet. One old peasant unexpectedly stopped in front of the Royal couple, opened an old bag and took out a large hare, which he handed over with a bow to a court official.
The Queen, who appeared to be thoroughly recovered, returned the smiles and graciously waved her arm.
