BACKHAUS AND KUBELIK.

. EACH ENGAGE LOCAL EXPERT, Hamilton has been favoured by visits from world-leading musicians recently, particular among these being Wilhelm Backhaus and Jan Kubelik. It will be recalled that when Backhaus arrived in Hamilton he discovered just before the performance that his piano was seriously affected through road travel. The services of Mr Harold Piper of Hamilton were secured and in remarkably short time the instrument had been tuned and adjusted to the great pianist’s complete satisfaction. To' Mr Piper has again fallen the honour to attend the requirements of a master musicial. Kubelik, violin virtuoso, required a thorough tuning and adjusting to the piano that was to accompany him last Tuesday, and the results of Mr Piper’s workmanship delighted the master, who later expressed in no uncertain manner the importance of the precision required in such circumstances.
