Mr R. H. Wood, formerly of Hamilton, and now of Auckland, is on a short visit to the town.
The Duke of Connaught left London on Thursday for the Riviera, where he will spend the winter at his villa at Cap Ferrat.

The appointment of LieutenantGeneral Sir Kenneth Wigram as Chief of the General Staff in India, in succession to Lieutenant-Qeneral Sir Cyril Deverell, with effect from March 21 next, has been approved.
The War Office announces the appointment of General Sir Archibald Montgomerv-Massingberd to be Ad-jutant-General to the Forces, in succession to General Sir Walter Braithwaite.
The resignation from the Main Highways Board of Mr A. E. Jull lias been accepted by the GovernorGeneral. Mr J nil’s resignation was tendered in view of his recent election as member of Parliament for Waipawa.
Mr. Forbes and Sir T. Sidev were entertained at luncheon by the London board of the Bank of New Zealand directors. Those present included Lord Lubbock (chairman, Viscount Jeilicoe and Sir W. Pember Reeves. — London Cable.
Mr G- E. Bunting, who has been Australasian manager at Sydney for Canadian National Steamships and Canad.an National Railways tor a considerable period, is retiring from the service to-day and is returning to Canada. He will be, succeeded by Mr F. C. Wood, who has been manager in New Zealand, and has been stationed at Wellington.
Professor P. G. Hornell, the Swedish engineer who visited New Zealand at the invitation of the Government to report on the Arapuni hydro-electric scheme, and who has inspected several other schemes also, was a passenger on the Ulimaroa which left Wellington yesterday for Sydney. Mr P. N. Werner, engineer assistant to Professor Hornell, also left by the Ulimaroa.
