HIGH SCHOOL HOSTEL.

HAMILTON BUILDING. PLEA FOR CONSTRUCTION. (Times Correspondent.) . WELLINGTON, Friday. A' further plea for work on the Hamilton High School to he proceeded with was made in the House of. Representatives this evening by Mr J. A. Young (Reform —Hamilton). Mr Young said the matter was one of much concern to the ’local community. As far back as 1913 the land was taken by the education authorities by arrangement with the local Domain Board for the purpose of establishing a hostel in connection with the High School. In consequence of the need for war finances the Board resolved to stand it off until a more favourable occasion. In 1928 the hostel was approved, and a vote made for the purpose. Since then matters, had progressed so far that tenders had been called for the hostel, but nothing 1 further had N been done.

Mr Young referred to a resolution passed by the board last month urging that the work be commenced without delay. He asked the Minister to represent to Cabinet as urgent the need for the hostel. “ If the Minister will say the Government Is pushed for finance and not immediately able to go on with the proposition,” said 'Mr Young, “ let him give us the definite assurance that the first expenditure of that sort will be for the Hamilton High School Hostel. In these circumstances we would possess ourselves in patience.”
