OKOROIRE.

Annual Dairy Meeting. The annual dairy ‘ meeting was largely attended. Mr. P. Goodwin presided. Mr. Branch gave an interesting address on the working of the company, manures, and other matters affecting the company’s business. Mr. Brash congratulated the ..settlers on the way they turned out to the meeting, stating that he had been addressing meetings for some time, hut the Okoroire attendance eclipsed all others. Mr. F. Huges, a director, also addressed the meeting, explaining the working of the coal shares, etc. He mentioned that the Okoroire cream run was the largest that the company had. Plain and Fancy Dress Ball. A plain and fancy dress ball will he held shortly to assist the Anglican parish funds. New School Wanted. The settlers on the Pakarala Road are asking the Education Board to appoint a teacher near Finlay’s Sawmill, j It is a case where the settlers are willing to help themselves, as they are offering to give the land free, purchase the timber, build the school, and hoard the teacher. The distance is too great to attend the Okoroire school, especial- ! ly in the winter. The Okoroire school committee is supporting the settlers in their applications. Annual Hall Meeting. •The annual meeting of the Okoroire hall society (incoporated) was held in the hall. Mr. Carruth was in the chair. The secretary, Mrs Gubb, read the annual report and balance-sheet, which disclosed a healthy state of affairs. During the year 70 dances and meetings, including religious were held. The receipts amounted to £9O and the expenditure to £75. The balance was devoted to reducing the overdraft, which stands at £l5O. Mr R. Carruth was re-elected chairman and Mrs Gubb secretary. It was decided to have the name of the hall painted on.
