WELCOME RAIN.
GOOD EFFECT ON PASTURES. POSITION AT MORRINSVILLE. (Special to Times.) MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. A few light showers of rain fell in the Morrinsville district on Thursday, but not sufficient to soak the ground, which the long spell of fine weather had made dry and hard. The rain on Friday was fairly constant and at times heavy.The- rain was most welcome,- as the hard frosts and absence of rain had materially affected the pastures. An unusually large area has been topdressed this' autumn, and a lot of manure has been lying on the surface for weeks without even a shower of rain to wash it into the ground and as farmers do not like putting their stock in paddocks which have been topdressed until after a good soaking rain the few paddocks reserved for stock meanwhile have been eaten so bare that feeding on hay and ensilage had to he started. Now that the rain has come the prospects for the winter look much brighter. -
