PIRONGIA.
Enjoyable Outing. A number of Pirongia people attended the Otorohanga athletic sports meeting on Easter Alonday, and spent a most enjoyale day. They were naturally pleased with the success of E. A. Bell, a Pirongia athlete, w'ho annexed two important events in the 100 yards open handicap and the 120 yards hurdles.' Gymnasium. Since re-opening a few weeks ago the Pirongia gymnasium has been well attended, notwithstanding the enforced absence of the popular boxing instructor, Air Frank Baker. That the hoys are pleased with their gymnasium and the pleasant instruction and healthy recreation it provides is very evident. The Farm. Autumn top-dressing is in full swing on many farms in the district.
Although some farmers are using a lime and super mixture super straight is easily the most popular manure. Young grass is doing well, although rather late owing to the dry weather experienced until quite recently. The old pastures are showing quite a good growth since the rain came, and the cows which were beginning to taper off have recovered somewhat as a result of the fresh growth.
