WORK ON WATERFRONT

FEDERAL INTERVENTION.

SHSP-OWENERS PERTURBED. PREFERENCE FOR VOLUNTEERS. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel.—Copyright. (Received April 12, 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, April 12. The ship-owners view with concern the Federal a Government’s Intervention on behalf of the Waterside Workers’ Federation, by which it is intended to specify by regulation common picking-up places for vessels at the ports of Melbourne and Adelaide. The shipowners point out that volunteer workers object to having to come into close contact with former strikers under conditions which will expose them to undue risks, and while tho owners are prepared to obey the law' they are determined to fulfil their promise to the volunteers, giving them preference of employment.
