BATTLE IN THE STREETS. FIVE KILLED, MANY WOUNDED. ATTEMPT ON MUSSOLINI’S LIFE. United Press Assn.—Klee. Tel. Copyright PARIS, Nov. 12. Grave troubles are reported from the interior of Italy. Owing to the high cost of living and the shortage of food, there was a nine days’ revolt at Yulmona, where the Governor was killed. The Town Hall and barracks were burned and martial law had to be declared. A strong body of Fascists fought a pitched battle in the streets and five of the townsfolk were killed and 100 were injured. Nothwithstanding a denial from Rome of the reported attempt on the life of the Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini, Le Petit Ntcols, which is printed at Nice, publishes an account by a correspondent who spent 10 days In Italy investigating the affair. This correspondent states that on October 10, Signor Mussolini, accompanied by others, motored to Ostia. Quite by chance the Prime Minister travelled in a Minister’s car instead of his own.
When the party arrived at Ostia the Duce’s car was fired upon and his secretary was hit in one of his thighs by a rifle bullet.
The police immediately searched the onlookers. It was finally revealed that a Fascist officer was the guilty man. lie confessed and warn executed the same evening without trial.
