STALKED BY A TIGER.

BITTEN BY A SNAKE. PLANTER’S PERILOUS PLIGHT. Unhed Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. —Copyright DELHI, Nov. 12An Assam tea planter had a narrow escape between a tigress and a snake. Having shot a tiger the planter waited at night for the tigress. Presently this animal waded across a river, followed by a cub. The hunter tried to catch the cub- / Suddenly a crashing in the jungle behind him made him realise his follyHe climbed a tree, the tigress missing him by inches. The planter was left perched aloft with the uncomfortable sensation that his fully-cocked rifle, leaning against the tree, was liable to be discharged by the tigress, and to fire in his direction.

Upon reaching the highest bough of the tree, he was promptly bitten by a snake. He cut out the 'poison and applied a rough tourniquet to prevent himself fainting from loss of blood, and falling down to where the tigress was still waiting. Eventually the planter was rescued from his perilous predicament by an Indian, who was climbing a tree in the vicinity. Much firing was necessary to scare the tigress away.
