HAMILTON METHODISTS
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Hamilton Circuit was held at St. Paul's Church. Rev. Percy Paris presided, and there were present Rev. G. R. Harris and a good number of church officials. The church membership was given as 453. . Mr W. B. Williams, financial steward, presented the balance-sheet, which was adopted. Special collections were authorised for the church anniversary at St. James’s on October 27, and for Sunday-school anniversaries at Maeroa on November 10 and St. Paul’s on November 24. Retiring collections for the orphanages will be taken throughout the circuit on December 15. It was reported tliat £l4 11s 5d had been forwarded to the Earthquake Relief Fund. The reports from the various Sunday schools, Biiile classes and young peoples’ societies were satisfactory. There are, irrespective of Bible classes, 430 scholars and 53 teachers in the church schools. Mr E. Thomas reported on the annual foreign mission effort. Already 1170 has been forwarded for the work in the Solomon Islands. There are 07 subscribers to the missionary magazine, “The Open Door.” It was announced that Nurse Coralie Murray, of St. Paul's, had been accepted for service in the Solomon Islands. Nurse Murray has been appointed to work under Dr. Clifford jarnes in the Methodist Mission Hospnul at Bambatana, on the island of Choiseui. She will sail from Auckland on November 1. A farewell social will be tendered to Nurse Murray by the Hamilton Methodists on Thursday, October 17. The committee set up to purchase a parsonage at Frankton has the matter in hand. Tributes to Ministers. The Rev. Percy Paris was unanimously and heartily invited for a further term as superintendent minister of the circuit, .several members paying glowing tributes to his worth and work. In accepting the invitation Mr Paris expressed regret that the Rev. G. R. Harris would be leaving the circuit in April, he having been invited to Opotiki. The meeting has invited the Rev. F. J. Parker, of Ashhurst, to succeed Mr Harris. Messrs J. C. Tietjens, H. Blackwood and R. P. Kilham were elected as representatives to synod, which meets at Cambridge on November 20 and 21. Mrs Earle, Mr E. J. Davey and Mr T. White were chosen as substitutes. Messrs E. .1. Davey and W. F. Mason were appointed to audit the circuit accounts. Anniversary of Maori Missions. The 107th anniversary of the Methodist Maori Missions will bo celebrated throughout the circuit. The Rev. A. J. Seamer and a Maori party will hold meetings at Raglan on November 20, Te Uku November 27. Frankton November 28, Whatawhata November 29, .Maeroa November 30, Hamilton December 1 and 2. The next quarterly meeting will bo held at St. Paul’s on Tuesday, January 14, 1930.
