HAMILTON MARKETS. ♦ POTATOES VERY FIRM. ALL FRUIT SCARCE. Fruit. _ _ All lines of fruit are very scarce with prices much on a par with the previous xxeek’s rates. Quotations Apples; Dougherty, 12s to 13s; Sturmers, 14s to 15s; delicious, 15s to 16s; Rome Beauties,. 13s to 15s; bananas, 30s to 32s 6d; oranges, Island, 22s to 255; Australian, 24s to 265. Pears: Winter Nelis, 11s to 12s; Winter Coles, 11s lo 12s; cooking, 8s to 9s. Vegetables. _ __ Cabbages and cauliflowers are very scarce, the former realising 12s 9d a bag and the latter 12s. Asparagus is again on the market and is realising from Is 3d to 2s a bundle. Another sharp rise in potatoes has occurred : down south and the market here is j very firm at £l2 10s per ton. Pota- ! toes are likely to remain firm until new potatoes are marketed. These are expected, In quantity, about the second week in November. New potatoes are now selling for 6d a lb. Produoo. | The local merchants report maize and wheat are not in much demand owing to the warm weather and both arj short in supply. Oats are hard to obtain and the market is firm with a rising tendency. There is an exceptionally good demand for grass seeds and If the demand holds record sales are likely. Chaff is in good demand. All manures except root crop manures arc slow of sale. Poultry. The market was heavily stocked with poultry- during the week and in some lines prices realised were a little easier than previous sales. Quotations are:—Black 'Orpington cockerels made 4s to Gs; White Leghorn cockerels, 3s 2d to 5s 3d; roosters, 2s 8d to 4s-3d; Black Orpington hens, 3s 8d to ss; White Leghorn hens, 3s to 3s Gd; ducks, 2o 3d to 4s 4d; hen and chicks, 15s to 235; Black Minorca hens to 4s; White Leghorn hens to 4s; turkey hens to 7s lid; cross-bred hens to 4s 4d; Wvandotte hens to 45.7 d. Fish. All fish is scarce report the local dealers though a little deep sea fish is on hand. Whitebait is plentiful and there is a good supply of oysters. Dairy Produce. Eggs are still very plentiful and realise Is a dozen wholesale -while butter remains firm at Is 7d, Is 8d and Is 9d per lb. for the three grades.
HIDES AND SKINS SALES. LITTLE VARIATION IN PRICES. There was very little variation from current values in the prices realised at the hides and skins sales yesterday. The market was slightly easier for hides, the quotations for skins remaining at par. The values for tallow and horsehair weer also unchanged. The following prices were realised yesterday:— Cow hides, light and medium, 6Jd to 7d per lb; second quality, sid to Gd; cut, sid to Gd; faulty, 4Jd to sd; ox hides, light, 63d to 7d; medium, 7id to lid; heavy, 7id to 8d; second quality, 6d to 6id; cut, 6id to 7d; kips, best grade, 7 3-8 d to 7id; seconds, 6d to 63d; yearlings, best grade, 9id to 9id; seconds, 7}d to 7id; calfskins, heavy, 91b to 101 b weight, 9Jd to 9id; best light, Is OJd to Is Id; best medium, Is lid to Is 2d; light and medium, cut, 10Ad to 103 d; slippy, BJd to 9jd. Sheepskins, three-quarter to fullwoolled, medium to fine crossbred, 103 d to 10id ; coarse crossbred, 9id to 10d; faulty, Bicl to 83d; damaged, 7Ad to 8d; badly damaged and broken, GAd to 7d; half-woolled, medium to fine crossbred, lOd to 10id; coarse crossbred, 9id to 9Jd; faulty, 73d to 7id; damaged, Gd to GAd; quarter to half-woolled, damaged, Did lo s id; lambskins, sound, 10 j d to 1 OAd; faulty and seedy, Bid to 9d; damaged, 7id to 8d; salted sheepskins, half to three-quarter woolled, large, 10s to 10s 4d each; medium, 8s 3d to 9s; light, 5s Gd to 6s; quarter to halfwoolled, large, Gs 3d to Gs 9d; medium, 4s 9d to ss; light, 3s to 3s 9d.
