MATANGI.

Musical Reoltal and Lecture. An entertaining and instructive evening was enjoyed by a large number of music-lovers in the Matangi church, when Mr Albert Bryant gave a musical recital and lecture descriptive of the lives and w r orks of the following composers: Purcell, Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Debussy, Chopin, and Mendelssohn. Illustrating his remarks the speaker ffave selections from the various com-

posers on the piano, organ and gramophone. Items which contributed much to the enjoyment of an appreciative gathering were rendered by Mr T. J. Randle (flute solo), Miss Mavis Shaw and Mr A. Bryant (pianoforte duet), Mr A. Webster (vocal solos). Several anthems by the church choir were delightfully rendered. Liberal contributions were made to the choir funds. The Rev. D. Hay, B. presided during the evening.
