DANCE AND CARD EVENING. A most successful dance and card evening was held at Kihikihl on Thursday evening in aid of the earthquake relief fund. Patrons attended from I all parts. The arrangements for the success of the social were in capable hands and every detail had been attended to. Delightful dance music was provided by the Tokanui Orchestra. Enjoyable extras were contributed by Messrs Kearns and \V. Corboy. Prizes for a Monte Carlo waltz competition were won by Miss J. Rogers and Mr J.. Linehan, and for a spotlight waltz by Miss Corboy and Mr Reese. Messrs D. Freeman, Topp and G. Wilson proved capable M.C.’s. In the euchre tourney Mrs J. Sutherland and Mr W. Old were the firstprize winners, and consolation awards were made to Mrs Macfle and Mrs 11. Kay. A delightful supper was served. Just before the last dance Mr Freeman expressed the promoters’ warmest thanks for the patronage extended to the effort and for practical help rendered by many, including the ladies of Kihikihi for providing the supper; the Town Board for granting the free use of the hall; Mr G. Wilson and others for free bus services, and the orchestra for their voluntary help. As a result of the effort £25 was raised. WEDDING. The wedding was solemnised in the Methodist Church, To Awamutu, on Wednesday, August 28, when Miss Joice Nugent Philip, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs 11. E. Philip, of Te Awamutu, was married to Mr Fredrick George Andrews, only son of the late Mr and Mrs G. W. Andrews, of London, England.
The bride entered the church with her father, and wore a dainty frock of ivory satin and Brussels point lace. An embroidered veil was arranged with clusters of orange blossoms over the ears and she carried a shower bouquet I of while flowers and maidenhair fern with tulle streamers. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Wills, and Mrs Ray Cullen played the wedding music. Miss Jean Philip, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid and wore a frock of shell pink georgette and silk lace with uneven hem. and a crinoline straw hat trimmed with georgette and flowers to tone. She carried a shower bouquet of pink flowers with tulle streamers. Little Fay Hcbden, in a frock of pink frilled georgette and crinoline hat trimmed witli pink and lemon flowers, made a dainty flowergirl. She carried a posy of primroses with ribbon streamers. Mr W. Mills was best man. END OF SEASON DANCE. On Wednesday evening the Indies’ committee of the Pukeafua Card Club held a very successful dance to close the season held during the winter months. Visitors were present from Te Awamutu, Parawera and Arapuni, and a very happy time w r as spent. The music of Mr 11. George, of Arapuni, was splendid, and Miss Barnett and
Mrs Davey and Airs Donald sypplied extras. During the evening Mrs Woodward, of Tarawera, gave "much pleasure by singing two solos, and Mrs F. and Air E. Holmes were heard in a vocal duet. After supper Mr H. Heddon presented the prizes, the winners being:— Cribbage; Lady’s prize, Airs S. Paterson; gentleman’s, Air J. Paterson; consolation prizes, Airs Solomon and Air Rae. Euchre: Air J. AlcKee. 500: Lady, Airs D. Donald; gentleman, Air F. Kurlh; consolation prizes, Airs Paul and Air Incruzzi. Air S. Paterson and Air Al. Riogard acted as Al.C.’s for the evening. All members thoroughly enjoyed the card evenings and are hoping to join again next winter. The success of the club is largely due to the untiring energy of the secretaries, Airs Ferguson, Airs Crowley and Airs Tindall, and of the Ladies’ Committee.
