TIMBERMEN’S STRIKE
NEW PHASE OPENED. BOYCOTT OF FIRMS. (Australian Press Association.) I’-'.- (Received August 30, 2.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 30. A new phase of the timber dispute is the- boycotting by the Balmain Dinghy Club of the lighterage ferry firm of Nicholson Brothers, who for many years have been liberal supporters of the yachtmcn, and provided launches to follow races in case of accident. Not only is the firm black listed, but a well-known boat and crew are disqualified because the skipper, Baulkwelt, accepted “black’’ money in the snape of Nicholsons’ cheque for a prize, which the club declined, but which the Nicholsons sent to Baulkwell privately. Messrs Nicholsons’ alleged offence is said to be the fact that ‘.heir tugs and lighters continued to work timber for certain big firms. It is reported that an effort is being made to get the Sydney Flying Squadron to withdraw its business from another launch proprietor, whose boats it is understood carried loyalists to and from the yards.
