BACK TO THE EAST.

PUTARURU SURVEYOR. LEAVING FOR SINGAPORE. Mr 11. L. Fcndall, who for the past few years has been practising as a surveyor in the Putaruru and Rotorua districts, is to leave shortly to take an appointment with the municipality of Singapore, Straits Settlement. Eastern municipalities, in an endeavour to widen the narrow lanes which largely comprise the thoroughfares of the various cities, arc engaged on detailed surveys of the entire city environs. They aim at arranging better building lines and improving the general attractiveness of the outdistricts on the lines of modern townplanning. Singapore is at present engaged on this work, and Mr Fcndall will join the city survey staff. A few years ago Mr Fcndall held an appointment in Borneo, so that he is well acquainted with conditions in the East. Mr and Mrs Fcndall will leave Putaruru for their new home early in March.
