Successful Fair. A successful fair was held in the Town Hall by the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild with the object of raising money for the manse building fund. Numerous competitions were held and the musical items given by Rev. J. Martin and the Busy Bees, also the members of the Pipe Band, were greatly appreciated. The following were the stallholders: Sweets, Mesdames Cornthwaite and Large; needlework, Mesdames T. Paterson, sen., Donald, and Aliss Jones; hoopla, Mrs Bcrkett; crashem and quoits; Air F. Hall, Airs Grant, and Misses Gcrrard; produce Alesdames Aluir and Hughes; refreshments, Alesdames Bromwich and Poulson; cakes, Alesdames Afurray and I-Icnnessy. Presentations. A pleasant evening look place at the N.Z. Dairy Company’s factory, when the employees assembled to bid farewell to Air F. Hull., who lias been engineer there for over 30 years. Air George Large (foreman), on behalf of the staff, presented AlrHutt with a handsome leather silvermounted bowling bag, pipe and tobacco pouch. Atr Large expressed the regret of himself and staff at losing the services and companionship of one with whom they had been associated for so many years. Air Hutt thanked the staff for their beautiful gift, which lie would always prize as a memento of the many years spent at the Ngaruawahia factory.
NEWSTEAD. Kitchen Evening. One of the larges: and most representative gatherings of the residents of (he district assembled in lhe hall on Tuesday evening, the occasion being a kitchen evening given io Aliss Nolt in honour of her approaching marriage. The evening proved a most happy and enjoyable one, a spirit of harmony and good-wili prevailing throughout. Songs were given by Aliss Osborne Hicks, Rev. J. Marlin and Airs GJen, other items being Aliss S. AVright (recitation), and Miss Edwards (Irish dance). The accompaniments were played by Airs Hicks and Air Whitehead, the latter also supplying the dance music. The opening of the parcels revealed a goodly array of useful kitchen articles, a large table being filled to overflowing.
Air Griffin, in a happy speech, asked Aliss Noth to accept flic gifts and referred to the high place Aliss Nolt had won in the esteem and affections of the people of Newstead, and his wish for her future happiness was endorsed‘by the big gathering in a most enthusiastic manner. The singing of “She’s a jolly good fellow” followed spontaneously. Air Frank Lusby, on behalf of Aliss Noll, suitably returned thanks.
Supper and dancing completed an evening which will long remain a pleasant memory to all who participated.-
