DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.
JOINERY WORKS DESTROYED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The joinery works of J. R. Simpson at Greenlane railway station, with their contents, were "totally destroyed by fire at 3 o'clock this morning. They were insured in the South British office for £ISOO. STARTED BY BURGLARS. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Burglars entered the. shop of Mr Norman E. Aitken, bookseller, Courtenay Place, last night, and stole money and goods to the value of about £B. They then started fires in five places on the premises. Small sums of silver kept in various drawers for early morning change and quantities of tobacco and perfumery were taken. About 30s worth of penny stamps was taken from a drawer. One fire was started near dozens of boxes of matches, and another had burned a hole in a counter.
