WELL STOCKED STREAMS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The experience of anglers generally is that the streams are well stocked this year and the fish arc in lino condition, but the fishing, due no doubt to the patchy nature of the weather, has been only spasmodically good. The total cash taken in licenses by the Wellington Acclimatisation Society ud till January 17 was £1316, which represents at least 1550 i licenses, as many of them arc boys' licenses. QUINNAT SALMON. r: DUNEDIN, Wednesday. This year will probably be a record one for quinnat salmon in New Zealand waters. The chief inspector of fisheries, Mr L. F. Ayson, says that quinnat salmon running up the river to spawn, were seen in the Rangitata, on January 2. and at the mouth of the Wailaki a Avcek later. While a good year was anticipated, no definite statement could be made until the fish started to run. Wo.aiher conditions and other things might affect the season. AMONG THE BIG ONES. SOME FURTHER RECORDS. RUSSELL,- Wednesday. A world's record mako shark was caught yesterday by Mr F. B. Lewis, of England, who secured a fish weighing 5771 b., at Cape Brett. The giant fish took nearly two hours to land, and put up a wonderful fight. Mr R. Bartlctt Smith, of England, secured a mako of 1121 b. weight and Mr Marsdcn Gaughcy landed a mako weighing 2351 b.
