A.P. AND H. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING AT TE AWAMUTU. The first meeting of the Tc Awamutu A., P. and 11. Association's executive since the annual meeting was held on Saturday evening, and in Hip absence of the president (Mr S. C. Maeky) Mr S. A. Empson (a vicepresident) was voted to the chair. The secretary, Mr J. G. Wynyard, read a. letter from the Otorohanga Agricultural and Pastoral Association calling attention lo the fact that the date (Wednesday, February 10) selected for the To Awamutu Show was also the date claimed for- the Taumarunui Show. It was proposed that To Awamutu defer/ its Show for one week, which would be nearer Utorohanga's annual exhibition. Members pointed out that that would bring To Awamutu's date very close to that of Franklin, which was to be held on Friday and Saturday, February 28 and '29. Cambridge Show was to be held on the following Wednesday and Thursday (March 2 and ,'J.) After fully considering the matter it was decided lo adhere to the original date, and the secretary undertook lo write to Taumarunui suggesting that that Association alter its date to February 23, pointing out that that date would not clash with other shows in adjacent centres.

Consideration''was given to preparation of the schedule for the coming Show, and several alterations were made. It was pointed out that a popular class at the Waikato Show was one for four children's school ponies from different districts or schools. and il was decided lo include a similar class, in Ihe hope lhat the teachers would take an interest in the class. Mr Empson suggested lhat a banner be given for the best educated team of four ponies from one school. Another class added was for the best walking draught mare or gelding. When ihc matter of hunting competitions was discussed it was proposed lhat the prize money for the champion hunter be increased from £lO to £ls or £2O, with a miniature replica of the perpetual cup. Finally it, was decided to 'give £2O and £5 5s as prizes in the open hunting competition, the winner to also have a miniature cup and his name added to the list on the plinth of the perpetual eup. . . , • It was decided to give championship ribbons in the draught, .hack and hunting sections. The prizes for the light-weight hunting classes were increased to £5 and £3. It was decided to delete the class for team of three farm horses. When consideration was given to the Jersey cattle section, Mr Clarke suggested an additional class for pedigree utility ciw, judged on type say 50 points with additional points for butter-fat.—Approved. It was decided to incluMc in the Pedigree .lerscy section a class for bull and three females, the property of one owner. Remark was made lhat the Grade Jersey classes did not excite keen competition last February, and it was decided to delete at least one ol the classes. The Pedigree Shorthorn . classes will be. retained the same as last year. Mr Hodgson advised lhat the Fricsian Breeders' Association would donate a gold medal lo the exhibitor who gained most points in the Fricsian section conditional on there being no fewer than 20 entries. The Ayrshire section will be repeated without alteration. Mr Clarke referred to the section for calves exhibited by boys and girls, lie thought some misunderstanding had occurred. The idea was to judge the calves, not on breeding type, but on rearing. Children should be encouraged lo rear calves, irrespective of whether the animal was pedigree or grade. The secretary .concurred, and said lie was

sure that there had been a misunderIng last year. The classes will be retained, and the judge will be asked to conform io the conditions. in the section for sheen a class was added for the best pet lamb, with prizes of 15s and ss. The secretary reported thatlho horticultural committee had been diligently preparing that section. The committee's recommendations were tabled, and unanimously approved. The chairman suggested that the committee should meet again before Christmas, ami, enquiry could be made meantime as to judges available. Mr Clarke said lie. would like members to bear in mind his suggestion at the annual meeting that an organiser be appointed to canvass the whole dislri.t for entries. The best lime would be the fortnight before the Show dale. The subject was discussed, but no decision was come to.
