ST. GEORGE'S FRANKTON

A VENTURE OF FAITH. DEBT REDUCTION EFFORT. "A week's special effort, culminating in a great thanksgiving day of free-will offerings!" This is what Ihc acting-vicar, churchwardens, and vestry of St. George's, Frankton. are. aiming at for the week November 14 to 21. Five hundred pounds (£500) in "straightout giving" on Sunday, the 21st. is confidently hoped for. A widespread appeal through the parish has been issued, and a generous response is expected. liis Grace the Primale and Archbishop of New Zealand, Dr. A. W. Avcrill, in a letter to the vicar, blessing this "week's effort," writes:— "Straightout giving, without any quid pro quo in the shape of tangible returns for the money expended, is a real remembrance of the words of the Lord Jesus when, lie said: 'lt is more blessed lo give than lo receive.' To do God's work in God's way is twice blest, for the doer as well as the.cause is blest thereby." The Archbishop's letter contains an inspiring message for the parish, commending Ihc appeal and urging the necessity for systematic almsgiving. When the parish was formed, some four years ago, a building scheme.to meet the growing need of Frankton was launched, involving the parish in heavy expense. The meeting of annual charges upon (his outlay is proving a serious matter. A determined effort should ,bc made to reduce the loans and bank overdraft. The preparation services on Sunday next will be followed by daily services, and evening gatherings organised in turn by the men and women, the young people, and the children. The climax will come on Sunday, November 21, which will be known as "Thanksgiving Sunday." It is hoped that all parishioners, and any others interested in SI. George's, will give their uttermost support at some sacrifice to themselves. No canvassing for money is to be done:
