APPLICATION OF PRESSURE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROTEST
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday
The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce recently drew the attention of the Government to the fact that Distributors Limited had terminated Hie agency held by a local firm apparently because one of its heads, as president of the chamber, had protested against the Hour duty and embargo. A reply has now been received from the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Hon. A. D. McLeod) saying Distributors Limited were within their legal right in terminating the agency.
Further Protest
A further protest lias been sent to the Minister directing attention to a circular sent by Distributors Limited to agents, staling that it has come lo the company's notice that derogatory statements have been made against the company, and that the directors consider it an unfriendly act and that unless it ceases at once it will result in the cancellation of agreements with the parties responsible.
The chamber reiterates its protest against the attempt to baulk public discussion on a matter of such vital public interest as duties or an embargo on imported flour.
