Henderson brought forward Ihe question regarding Ihe high price merchants were charging for manures, especially superphosphates. The secretary was instructed to send remits to the sub-provincial next meeting that it urge the Government to lower the price, pointing out that cheaper manures meant more manure on Ihe land, hence greater production and benefit to town and j country alike. I The branch also considered that in view of the Canadian Government moving for a lariff against our butter and clieose, Ihe |,jmc was opportune to revive, a previous remit dealing with preference for British goods. The meeting was strongly of opinion (hat something should be done to retaliate against the somewhat selfish altitude of Governments building tariffs to forestall. New Zealand produce entering their country; especially in view of the enormous importations of motor-cars, machinery and oils of all descriptions from America and Canada into this Dominion. The meeting considered that it was of the utmost importance that something Should be done to reduce Ihe overwhelming advantage of trade America has over New Zealand, preferably by reverting it lo Britain, seeing that the Mother Country buys at k-nsl three-quarters of the production from this Dominion. The To Kowhai branch is cooperating wilh the local union in petitioning the Government for a telephone connection al Iloroliu station.
