NGARUAWAHIA REGATTA.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY CARNIVAL. MAORI CANOE HURDLE RACE. There was a great gathering at Ngaruawahia for Ihe annual regatta on the Waikalo and Waipa Rivers todav. At Ihe conlluenco of the two streams the banks were lined with spectators who followed the various events with interest. The Maori canoe hurdle races, for so long one of the, chief attractions at the Ngaruawahia carnival, again aroused the attention of onlookers, among whom the event caused much amusement. In addition to the sculling events, in which clubs from all parts of the Auckland Province competed, and the swimming races, exhibitions of poi dances and hakas were given by native men and women throughout the day. Many people make St. Patrick's Day at Ngaruawahia an annual function, ana the special trains to the delta township were well patronised. Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister for Internal Affairs, was amongst the visitors. Following arc the results:— Maiden Fours, (lOst and under), about 1 mile.—Mercer (W. G. Oliver, A. Pitt, L. Allan, L. Parsons),l; West End, 2; Auckland, 3. Won by three lengths. Maiden Double Sculls, 1 mile. — Waitcmafa (A. Stewart and J. M. Stevenson), 1; Hamilton (Cruikshank Mid G. Stewart) ,2. The only starters. Won by three lengths. Junior Fours, li miles.—Hamilton (2. Tasker, F. C. Gorlett, S. Gave, E. A. Walters), 1; St. George's, 2; Waitemata, 3. Won comfortably.
