WONG THE INTERPRETER.
IN POSSESSION OF OPIUM.
(By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday.
A Chinaman named Wong Tack was yesterday fined £3O for being in possession of opium suitable for smoking. Accused, who has officiated in the Court as Chinese interpreter, said he vacated the premises a few hours before the police raid and could give no explanation as to the presence of the opium in the house. Accused was allowed a fortnight in which to pay the fine.
